U.S. musician Chris Brown has admitted guilt in an assault case related to an incident at a London nightclub three years ago. Brown, 37, and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, appeared in London’s Southwark Crown Court and acknowledged their involvement in the altercation at Tape nightclub in February 2023. The duo initially faced severe charges of causing bodily harm to Abraham Diaw and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, which they denied. However, they have now pleaded guilty to the charge of affray, acknowledging the use of or threats of unlawful violence towards a person feeling threatened.
Prosecutors have dropped the more serious charges against Brown and Akinlolu, and they have been granted bail until their sentencing on October 26. The court has the authority to impose a maximum sentence of three years of imprisonment for affray, as stated by Judge Tony Baumgartner. The Crown Prosecution Service condemned the incident as a vicious and unprovoked attack, emphasizing that such violence is intolerable and that everyone must be held accountable under the law.
The allegations against Brown involved an alleged attack on Diaw with a tequila bottle, followed by further aggression as Diaw attempted to escape. Despite initial denial of bail, Brown was eventually released after agreeing to pay a substantial security fee, allowing his ongoing tour to proceed. The singer received support from fans outside the court, who cheered him on as he left the premises, signed autographs, and departed in a waiting vehicle.
