“Denver Summit FC Signs Canadian Midfielder Emma Regan”

Denver Summit FC, one of the two new teams starting in the National Women’s Soccer League this year, has officially signed Canadian midfielder Emma Regan. AFC Toronto announced on Tuesday that the 25-year-old player from Burnaby, B.C., is leaving the Northern Super League club to join the NWSL, without specifying the team she would be joining.

Denver confirmed that Regan has inked a multi-year deal until the 2028 season with an option for 2029. General Manager Curt Johnson expressed excitement about Regan’s addition, highlighting her versatile skills, professional experience, and leadership qualities. Regan will be joining Canadian international Janine Sonis in Denver.

Although the exact transfer fee was not disclosed by Denver or Toronto, it is believed to be in the range of the amount paid by the Portland Thorns to acquire Canada captain Jessie Fleming from Chelsea. Regan expressed mixed emotions about leaving AFC Toronto, where she had a rewarding experience but is now looking forward to the new chapter with Denver.

AFC Toronto’s sporting director, Billy Wilson, commented that Regan’s move is a positive development for her, the club, and the NSL. Regan’s impressive performance for Canada last year, including scoring her first senior goal, has garnered attention and recognition.

Regan’s impact was significant at Toronto, where she led the team to top the regular-season standings and played a crucial role in advancing to the NSL championship game. She was named NSL midfielder of the year and received accolades for her contributions to AFC Toronto.

Prior to her time in Toronto, Regan played in Denmark and had a successful collegiate career at the University of Texas. In other NWSL news, Canadian forward Nichelle Prince has been traded to the expansion team Boston Legacy from the Kansas City Current, bringing her experience and skills to the new team.
