Nancy Guthrie’s family has been excluded as potential suspects in her disappearance, as confirmed by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos on Monday. The investigation into the abduction of the mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has now entered its third week.
Sheriff Nanos praised the cooperation of Guthrie’s family members, including all siblings and spouses, as they have been supportive and helpful during the investigation. He emphasized that any insinuation otherwise is both inaccurate and unkind, stating that the Guthrie family are unequivocally victims in this situation.
Authorities revealed on Sunday that they had recovered a DNA sample from a glove found near 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s residence in Arizona. This DNA sample appears to match the gloves worn by an unidentified individual captured on doorbell camera footage before Guthrie’s abduction two weeks ago.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, when her family dropped her off at her home near Tucson after a dinner together. She was reported missing by her relatives the following day. Sheriff Nanos highlighted that due to Nancy Guthrie’s limited physical mobility, it was improbable for her to have left her home independently, leading investigators to believe she was taken against her will.
Although two ransom notes have emerged since her disappearance, they were initially delivered to news outlets, and there has been no direct communication between the captors and Guthrie’s family or law enforcement.
Recent DNA tests confirmed that blood traces found on Guthrie’s front porch belonged to her. Described as fragile and reliant on daily medication and a pacemaker, Guthrie’s health condition adds urgency to the search efforts.
Savannah Guthrie, aged 54 and co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, along with her siblings, Camron and Annie Guthrie, have released emotional video appeals urging the public’s assistance in finding their missing mother.
Sheriff Nanos mentioned to Reuters that while there has been no evidence of Nancy Guthrie’s well-being post-abduction, there is also no confirmation of her demise. The assumption is that she is still alive, and the investigation continues to focus on locating her.
