“Korean-Canadian Filmmaker Honored with Key to Toronto”

The mastermind behind the award-winning animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has been honored with the key to Toronto, her hometown. Maggie Kang, a Korean-Canadian filmmaker, was surprised during a panel discussion at Departure Festival when Mayor Olivia Chow presented her with the key. Mayor Chow praised Kang’s achievements and expressed how her journey would serve as an inspiration for future generations.

Following the key presentation, Kang, alongside Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of Sheridan College, posed for photos without making any remarks. “KPop Demon Hunters” has broken records on Netflix as the most-watched film ever, leading to a highly successful soundtrack release and approval for a sequel. During the panel, Kang hinted about her upcoming project, emphasizing her commitment to delivering a sequel that matches the quality and excitement of the original.

Later in the day, Kang is set to be honored with the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala.
