America is gearing up to mark its 250th year of independence with a grand celebration featuring ’90s music icons in Washington D.C. The Freedom 250’s Great American State Fair will showcase performances by Vanilla Ice and C+C Music Factory on June 26.
However, rapper Young MC has backed out of the event, citing concerns about its alleged political affiliations. In a Facebook post, he expressed disappointment over the event’s perceived partisan nature and clarified that the artists were unaware of any political connections.
Similarly, Milli Vanilli members confirmed that they will not be performing at the event, clarifying a previous announcement made without their consent. Despite the organizers’ assertion of non-partisanship, there have been criticisms of the event being linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The event, as described on its website, aims to celebrate the American spirit’s triumph, but controversies have arisen over other commemorations glorifying Trump. Various acts are scheduled to perform during the fair, but withdrawals have cast uncertainty on the final lineup.
Morris Day, initially listed as a performer, discredited rumors of his participation in an Instagram post. C+C Music Factory member Freedom Williams confirmed his commitment to the concert despite initial hesitations, emphasizing his independence from external pressures.
Notably, country singer Martina McBride, the Commodores, and Bret Michaels have also withdrawn from their scheduled performances, citing evolving circumstances and a shift towards divisiveness in the event’s tone.
