Rush Teases “Special” Surprise for 2026 Juno Awards

Legendary rock band Rush has teased a “special” surprise at the upcoming 2026 Juno Awards set to be held in Hamilton this Sunday. In a newsletter to fans, the band hinted at a noteworthy moment with Geddy & Alex, urging fans to be part of the occasion. The mysterious message was accompanied by a link to purchase tickets for the Juno Awards scheduled for Sunday, March 29.

Last fall, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson revealed plans for a 2026 tour. This tour will mark the band’s first public performance with Anika Nilles, who stepped in as the new drummer following the passing of Neil Peart due to brain cancer in 2020. Nilles, a talented German drummer with a popular YouTube presence, had previously toured with Jeff Beck in 2022.

Geddy Lee praised Nilles’ skills after witnessing her performance on Jeff Beck’s previous tour. While specific details were not disclosed by the band, the potential Juno Awards performance could offer fans a first glimpse of the current lineup before their upcoming worldwide tour titled Fifty Something, commencing in Los Angeles in June. The tour includes stops in Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton, with four shows planned at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena in August and additional performances in December.

Since their formation in Toronto in 1968, Rush has released 19 studio albums, achieving significant success with 24 gold albums, 14 platinum albums, and three multi-platinum albums. Recently, on March 13, Rush unveiled Grace Under Pressure: Super Deluxe, a box set featuring their iconic 1984 concert at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens, widely regarded as a pinnacle of the band’s creative prowess.

Having garnered numerous accolades over the years, Rush has a history of Juno Awards success, including being named most promising group in 1975 and winning group of the year consecutively in ’78 and ’79. With a total of 10 Juno Awards to their name, Rush secured the inaugural Juno Award for best hard rock/metal album in 1991 with their 13th album, Presto.

CBC Music has contacted the band for additional comments as anticipation grows among fans for the band’s upcoming appearances.
