Some educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and government offices in the province experienced delays or closures on Monday due to inclement weather conditions. Environment Canada had issued a yellow warning specifically for Kings County due to the potential for damaging winds, although all warnings for the province have now been lifted.
Westisle Family of Schools had to cancel classes, while other Public Schools Branch classes proceeded with a one-hour delay. École Pierre Chiasson also cancelled classes for the day, with the rest of CSLF schools operating with a one-hour delay.
In-person appointments at Tyne Valley Health Centre, O’Leary Health Centre, Alberton Health Centre, and Tignish Health Centre were cancelled until 9:30 a.m. Additionally, all provincial civil service offices in the West Prince area delayed their opening until 10:30 a.m.
Although the warning was specific to Kings County, CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin warned that strong winds could affect Islanders across the province. She explained that the highest gusts would likely be along the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but other areas could still experience winds of 50 to 80 km/h throughout the day. Simpkin anticipated that the winds would gradually decrease by supper time and overnight.
The windy conditions are expected to persist throughout the day but should gradually diminish by evening, according to Simpkin.
