Tegan Quin, known for being one half of the pop-indie duo Tegan and Sara, has contributed to the upcoming Marvel Comics pride special one-shot, titled “Wiccan & Hulking: Raid of Ultron #1,” set to be released on May 27. The comic focuses on the well-known gay couple Wiccan and Hulkling, emphasizing the significance of community and connections during challenging times.
In Quin’s narrative, beautifully illustrated by Luciano Vecchio, the story revolves around the twins Wiccan and Speed joining forces to combat Ultron while navigating their differing paths as siblings. Quin expressed her excitement about the project, stating that as a twin herself, she couldn’t think of more fitting Marvel Universe characters to write about than Wiccan and Speed. She also mentioned that her debut with Marvel was not only thrilling but also felt magical, drawing parallels between defeating Ultrons in the story and personal experiences in the music industry.
Apart from Quin, the comic will feature contributions from other writers like Wyatt Kennedy, Josh Trujillo, and Zoe Tunnell, along with artists Rachael Stott, Bradley Clayton, and Stephen Byrne. Additionally, Quin, based in Vancouver, is advocating for Loghan Paylor’s novel “The Cure for Drowning” on Canada Reads 2026, a platform where five Canadian celebrities select a book for national reading, engaging in debates over four days to determine the ultimate winner.
The annual Canada Reads event is scheduled to take place from April 13 to 16 this year. Tegan Quin, alongside her sister, has a successful music career with ten studio albums, featuring popular tracks such as “Closer,” “Where Does The Good Go,” and “Walking with A Ghost.” Their achievements include selling over a million records, winning Juno and GLAAD awards, receiving a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, and earning nominations for prestigious accolades like the Polaris Music Prize and the Grammy Awards.
In 2019, the talented duo expanded their writing ventures from songs to literature with the release of their joint memoir, “High School,” and the middle-grade graphic novel series “Tegan & Sara: Junior High,” illustrated by Tillie Walden. Furthermore, they established the Tegan and Sara Foundation to provide support and investment in 2SLGBTQ+ communities, leading to their recognition with the Humanitarian Award at the 2024 Juno Awards.
